Frequently Asked Questions.
| What are Geckolighting® products? |
A. Geckolighting products incorporate solid state LED (light emitting diode) technology specifically developed to replace existing Australian 240 volt lighting products.
| Will Gecko LED lights fit into standard sockets and fittings? |
Yes - Gecko LED globes are available to fit standard Australian bayonet and screw sockets. Simply replace an incandescent or compact florescent globe with a Gecko LED. Gecko LED tubes fit standard fluorescent tube fittings, however it is necessary to remove or bypass the starter, capacitor and ballast for full savings potential. See instructions for Gecko LED tubes. Eliminating fluorescent starters, ballasts and capacitors, which burn out over time, eliminates these items from any electrical maintenance requirement. Gecko LED Hi-Bay factory/warehouse and street/yard lights replace metal halide or high pressure sodium fittings and transformers.
| Do Gecko LED light products contain mercury or lead? |
No. - Unlike other products Gecko LED lights do not contain mercury or lead. In fact replacing one fluorescent tube with a Gecko removes at least 3mg of mercury and 500g and lead from the environment.
| How much longer does a Gecko LED light last? |
A Gecko LED globe lasts up to 50 times longer than a standard light globe and at least 5 times longer than a compact fluorescent. As standard good quality incandescent globe lasts about 1000 hours. If it is on for 12 hours per day 5 days per week it will last about 17 weeks. A Gecko LED globe will last over 800 weeks.
A Gecko LED tube lasts over 3 times longer than a good quality fluorescent tube and a gecko Hi-Bay factory/warehouse light or street/yard light lasts 6 times longer than its metal halide or high pressure sodium equivalent. A Gecko LED street light on for 12 hours per day 7 days per week will not require maintenance for almost 12 years.
| Do Gecko LED lights use less power? |
Yes - Gecko LED lights use much less power than other available products. A standard 60 watt bulb can be replaced with a 5 watt Gecko LED. A 36 watt fluorescent and its 12 watt ballast can be replaced with a 15 watt Gecko LED. A 250 watt street or yard light can be replace with a 60 watt Gecko LED.
| Are Gecko lights really low heat? |
Yes - Gecko lights generate very little heat and are cool to touch even after hours of constant use. But please do not touch electrical products while the power is on and even then exercise caution. Do not play with electrical power.
| Are Gecko LED lights good for the environment? |
Absolutely. Less energy, less CO2, less waste, less heat, no mercury, no lead
